The DR

Hispaniola is a major island in the Caribbean containing the two sovereign states of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.  Each state has a population of around 9 million people, and the climate of the area is generally humid and tropical.  The average annual income in the Dominican Republic is $8,200.

With a population of more than 10 million people, the Dominican Republic has the ninth largest economy in Latin America thanks to the area being the largest tourist destination in the Caribbean.  Though long known for sugar production, the country's economy is now dominated by the service industry.  Even being a thriving tourist destination, the DR is plagued by high unemployment, government corruption, and inconsistent electricity.
